September 18th Message to Families

Posted On Monday September 19, 2022

Hello Clara Hughes Families,

Thank you for another great week! Our Meet the Staff & Families Night
was a great opportunity to make connections, see your child's place of
learning, and join us for some pizza and music. It was great to see so many
families out, and we appreciate the support including the Scholastic Book Fair!

Information about pizza and other special lunches will be shared shortly. We
are looking for a local vendor for both meat patties and samosas as we add
these opportunities this year. If you have any vendor suggestions, please email
Kyla McKee with contact details.

This week brings another exciting fall event: our Terry Fox Run on Thursday.
A separate message will be sent sharing some additional details and we are
looking forward to returning to the tradition of participating in this event at
the park around the corner (grades 1-8).

Thank you again for your on-going patience and focus on safety for all when
using the Kiss 'N' Ride. Now that both students and families are familiar with
dismissal locations and routines, if your child is in grade 3 and up, please
strongly consider using the Kiss 'N' Ride rather than parking on the street.
While it may require some patience, the system allows for efficient pick up and
will reduce the volume of cars on the streets.  We are getting much better
at using the designated walking paths, but do need to ensure we are not making
any attempt to complete a u-turn or backing out of the parking entrance, or
dropping anyone off at the base of this entrance. This is not only unsafe, but
it clogs the entrance affecting traffic flow. For those who have been walking
from home, we thank you very much! If you are able to shift to walking from
home now that routines are familiar, please do so.

We do however, need your support with our crosswalk. Our incredible crossing
guard Anita, works very hard to ensure the safety of our students. She needs us
to ensure we wait for her signal to cross, to be cautious at all times, and to
treat each other and Anita with kindness and respect. We have asked for a
traffic survey to be done in an effort to explore adjusting this intersection
to an all-way stop; decisions rest with the City of Oshawa. There is no
replacement for being cautious, patient, and kind. Your support in both
modelling this and talking to your children about safely crossing any road is
appreciated.

Our Photo Day is scheduled for September 29th, with Re-take Day on November
2nd, with photos taken by Edge Imaging. Please make note of these dates in your
calendars. Should you have any questions or concerns about photo day, please
connect with your child's classroom teacher.

Looking forward to another great week. Thank you for your on-going
partnership.

Sincerely,

Kyla McKee
